Paper & Pen Analogy: A domestic: Pen stays still and paper moves. A Longarm: Pen moves and paper stays still. For this episode we will stick to the longarm quilting.

Terms:

Free Motion/Custom: Using your body to move the machine to make the design or “doodle” on your quilt.
Edge 2 Edge/Automation: A pattern that is stitched from one side to another. Often a repeating pattern, and the machine stitches a design that you pick. Also called a “pantograph”.

Quilt Prep: Iron, Iron, IRON! Give enough backing for your longarm quilter.

Batting: Bamboo gives you a little more depth & and loft. 80/20 is great for t-shirt quilts.

Cost Breakdown: The most cost prohibitive in all of quilting. Run of the mill Edge 2 Edge quilting can cost anywhere around $.018-$.022psi (per square inch). Custom Quilting can run up to $.08psi. Multiply length x width to get total square inches. Multiply that number by what is being charged and you will get your quilting total. This often times will not include batting, thread or shipping.
